Playing in a USA Pickleball sanctioned event for the first time is a different experience from club league play. Here's what you need to know before you register.

Finding Events

USA Pickleball's tournament finder at usapickleball.org lists sanctioned events by date, location, and skill level. You can filter for events within driving distance, for your rating bracket, and for specific formats (singles, doubles, mixed doubles). Registration for popular events fills quickly — some within hours of opening.

Your Rating

USA Pickleball uses DUPR as its official rating system for event registration. If you don't have a DUPR rating, you'll need to self-rate honestly. Playing in the wrong bracket — especially playing down — is a quick way to get your rating adjusted and your reputation damaged in local competitive circles. Play at your level.

What to Bring

Approved paddle (check the USA Pickleball approved equipment list), appropriate court footwear, balls for warm-up, and a towel. Hydration is underrated at competitive events — matches can stack up and recovery time between games is shorter than you expect. Gear that performs when you're tired matters.

The Day-Of Reality

Arrive early. Find your bracket bracket. Warm up properly. Expect waits between matches. The players who do best at sanctioned events are the ones who treat the organizational side as part of their preparation, not an obstacle to get through.
