Straight answer: only if you are competing in officially sanctioned tournaments. For everyone else, the weekend players, the rec center regulars, and the backyard crew, approval is simply not part of the decision. Here is how to think about it.
When you do need one
If you are entering USA Pickleball sanctioned tournaments or chasing official rankings, your paddle must be on the approved list. Follow the rule for those events. You can review the current standards on the USA Pickleball site.
When you do not
Playing rec games, pickup, casual league nights, or learning the sport? You can use whatever paddle you like. Approval is a tournament compliance standard, not a quality grade and not a requirement for everyday play.
So how should you choose?
For most players, the paddle you reach for is the one you actually enjoy carrying onto the court. That is where Dope comes in. The chrome edge and gold foil of the High Roller are made to be seen, and the rest of the High Roller Collection is built to match.
